Friargate Meeting

Friargate Meeting House Welcome to Friargate Meeting. We would be happy for you to look round and to join us at our meeting for worship on Sundays.

Friargate is a larger meeting than most Quaker meetings and there may be upwards of 100 present. Friargate also has a smaller breakfast meeting on the second and fourth Sunday in the month, starting at 8.45 for breakfast, following by meeting for worship from 9.15. During term time we may also have some senior pupils from the two Quaker schools, Bootham and the Mount. Our younger children go out to their separate groups after a quarter of an hour, and the babies go to the crèche.

After meeting coffee is served in an adjoining room, when we can meet and chat in an informal way. At this time you can meet us and find out more about the Society of Friends if you wish.

There is a wide variety of activities throughout the rest of the week. Monthly programmes are available to all from the Meeting House. In the entrance lobby of the Meeting House are free leaflets, many of which are also available here.

The meeting House is generally open during the day (except Monday and Sunday afternoon) when our Warden or Deputy Warden will be happy to talk to you.

There is a lively programme of activities at Friargate. There is a literature group, which meets frequently to discuss books; and after the third Sunday of every month, a simple lunch is provided and there's the chance to talk to people informally. There are also smaller groups of people from the same neighbourhood who meet every so often.
